Who is under there?
- A wide hole with a mound of dirt, and an animal out in the daytime: a groundhog
- A smell at night and small, neat holes dug in the lawn: a skunk
- Movement at night and food scattered, but no digging: an opossum
- Several holes, a musky smell and young playing outside in spring: a fox
In the meantime
- Keep dogs on a leash in that part of the yard, most of all after dark
- Do not block the hole while the animal is inside
- Bring pet food and bird seed in at night
How the space is closed off
Once the animal is trapped and taken away, we screen the space with mesh set into the ground along the bottom of the porch or deck, so nothing can dig back under it.
